Can’t wait to see how the gardens grow this upcoming summer.
Last summer we had two empty garden frames. But with new soil, compost, and volunteer power, we’ve filled them up and have them ready for the summer.
The community has grown tomatoes, watermelon, squash, lettuce, beans, okra, and much more this past summer. We’ll keep on harvesting those crops as we plant new cool-season veggies for the fall.
We’ve added a new wildflower / pollinator garden outside the garden fence and already have some hungry monarch butterfly larva eating up the milkweed. It’s a sure sign we need more milkweed growing next year!
Hopefully we’ll have many many more to come!
UMW COAR student volunteers built two picnic tables, which have been added to the garden.
